Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 3 October 2026
These terms cover your use of Lipi (the website and editor at this address), owned and managed by Thela Labs ("we", "us"). By using Lipi, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
Who can use Lipi
Anyone can use Lipi. If you use it for a business or a client, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for them.
Using Lipi
- Lipi is free to use. We may introduce paid features later; we'll tell you before anything you use starts to cost money.
- Lipi runs in your browser. Your projects and media are stored on your own computer, not on our servers (see the Privacy Policy). You are responsible for keeping copies of anything important. Use Save backup (.lipi), because clearing browser data or changing computers can lose your projects, and we can't recover them.
- Lipi is new and actively changing. Features may be added, changed or removed, and the service may be unavailable at times.
Your content
You own the videos, audio, images, text and captions you use or create in Lipi. We don't receive your content and claim no rights over it.
You are responsible for your content and for having the rights to everything in it, including footage, music, logos and the people who appear in it. Posting your exported videos on Instagram, YouTube or elsewhere is subject to those platforms' own rules.
Acceptable use
Don't use Lipi to:
- make or share anything illegal, including content that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark;
- harass, threaten, defame or impersonate anyone, or create sexual content involving minors;
- interfere with the service: overload it, probe it for weaknesses, or bypass its limits;
- scrape, copy or resell the service, or use our name and branding without permission.
Automatic captions and other features
Captions, transcripts and other automatic features are generated by software and can be wrong, especially with background noise, mixed languages or names. Always review them before you post. You are responsible for what your published video says.
Other services and open source
Lipi uses third-party services, such as fonts from Google Fonts and a speech-recognition model from Hugging Face, and links to other platforms. We're not responsible for those services, which have their own terms.
Lipi is built on open-source software, including OpenCut (MIT licence). Those components remain under their own licences.
Feedback
If you send us ideas or feedback (for example through Something missing?), we may use them to improve Lipi without any obligation to you.
No warranty
Lipi is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose, or that exports will always succeed.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Thela Labs isn't liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, content, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of, or inability to use, Lipi. Lipi is free, and our total liability for any claim related to it is limited to ₹1,000.
Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against Thela Labs because of content you created or published with Lipi, or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim.
Suspension and ending
We may suspend or end access to Lipi for anyone who breaks these terms, or change or stop the service. You can stop using Lipi at any time; clearing this site's data in your browser removes everything it stored on your computer.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be handled by the competent courts in India. Before going to court, please write to us so we can try to resolve it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top, and for important changes we'll mention it in Lipi. Continuing to use Lipi after a change means you accept the updated terms.
